I had a dude on Facebook try to explain to me (very typically Chinese surname, visibly Chinese in my profile picture) how to spell Nanjing. He insisted that it was correctly spelled Nanking, using the Wade-Giles instead of the hanyu pinyin romanization system – which China adopted in the 1950s and even the USA adopted in the 1980s. I shut that bullshit down real fast lol.
