Or you should lose weight and we’ll run tests again.
Clueless doctors are global. I strained my back spectacularly when I was 15, it didn’t heal for something like a month. My GP, who I’ve seen since I could remember, had me sent for an X ray to check for a slipped disc (got that part right). When the results came back normal – he did absolutely fucking nothing. Not even a token offer of painkillers or sending me to a chiropractor to sort out. Absolutely-bloody-nothing.
It took an acupressurist to
1) confirm that it really was just a spectacular strain
2) fix it (I couldn’t sit or stand upright comfortably for an entire day, but fuck it I could climb stairs again after that)
3) tell me what underlying issues I had (very weak, tight back muscles) and
4) suggest what I could do to prevent it happening again (swim more, build up my back muscles generally).
My GP is a lot better than the others in this post, but he does occasionally have his blind moments. If he’s not doing enough to help me, I’m gonna go to someone who can.
