Malala Yousafzai survived a Taliban attack and now speaks out for women’s access to education while pursuing a degree of her own at Oxford, earning a Nobel Peace Prize along the way. Shirley Chisholm shattered racial and gender barriers as the first black representative in the US Congress and the first black major-party presidential candidate. Hypatia helped shape our understanding of astronomy, geometry, and number theory. Over several millennia and all around the world, these four women helped to build the world we live in today, and each of their journeys started at school. The HPA is working to help girls get a transformative, equal education to help them follow in these heroines’ footsteps from the classroom to the global stage.
