Reblog and you might save someone’s life, especially with all our Black Girls going missing #ProtectBlackGirls #SaveLife

For those who don’t know what’s happening in the video, she untied her shoelaces, pulled one through the inside of the zip tie binding her hands, then tied the shoelaces together. Then, by pulling downward and back and forth on the shoelaces with her feet, she created enough friction to wear away part of the ziptie, making it weak enough to snap right off her hands.

I was taught this technique among others by an ex MI6 operative and it really does work! But here’s some other info in case you can’t do that for whatever reason.

If you’re not wearing laces try holding your hands in front of your body and pulling your arms backwards and out (like you’re shoving your elbows out behind your body)
This also works on tape but if you’re being taped up don’t struggle! This means they’ll lie the tape flat on you which is easier to get out of than if it’s creased. Then pull your arms backwards and out in the same way

Also if your kidnappers aren’t experienced and they’re zip tying you, hold out your hands to them with your hands in fists, thumbs touching and the backs of your hands facing up – they’ll think you’re scared and agreeing to their demands but in reality this position creates extra space in the zip tie, then you can just turn your hands so tat your palms are facing and pull one hand out. You can also try tensing your hands which can increase your wrist size and give you more room to work with but that’s only really effective if you have muscle there.

If you’re not strong enough to break a zip tie and don’t wear laces then find something thin and you can pull back the grip in the zip tie lock and just pull it open – there’s loads of tutorials on Google.

This brings me on to my biggest point. If you’re in a dangerous area or are at risk ALWAYS CARRY A CONCEALED BOBBY PIN. Stick it at the back of your head or in the middle of your ponytail or hide it in your curls. Kidnappers will check your bags, they’ll check your pockets but they’ll rarely check your hair. Bobby pins are #1 the most useful tool for escape, short of a lock pick set. Choose the plain metal ones not the ones with plastic bobbles on the end (or shave those off). Zip ties? Pull back the grip with a bobby pin and they’re useless.

Handcuffs? Break out that bobby pin you’re carrying and bend it slightly to form a right angle. Now insert one end into the lock. Imagining the lock as a clock face most handcuffs unlock at about the number four position. Twist the bobby pin down and you’ll probably feel it catch. With a bit of wiggling the lock will spring right open. I’ve done this on old police handcuffs, so it’s likely to work on anything any would be kidnappers have got their hands on.

Stay vigilant, stay careful, I hope this can help
